SUMMARY:Mosaic Mandala with Textural Clay Embellishments
DESCRIPTION:In this fast paced and super fun class\, you will be working with clay to design and create your own collection of decorative and three dimensional ceramic pieces for embellishing a mosaic mandala. You will love how these pieces give your work a more unique and individual look! We’ll go over design possibilities and you’ll see samples of how to incorporate these pieces into your mandala. \nDay one\, in the morning\, we will focus on exploring the endless possibilities of creating textures and imprints in clay as well as how to create sculptural pieces that will add so much dimension to your work.  Glaze application and secrets for layering glazes for special effects will be covered. We will fast dry your pieces and then glaze them before lunch. Then they’ll be fired and ready to insert into your mandala on Sunday. In the afternoon\, we will be working with a rainbow of stained glass\, glass gems\, and mirror to complete your mandala design. \nDay two\, you will complete the mandala and then grout. We’ll go over the use of  different types of tints for coloring your grout. \nYour substrate will be wedi board and your clay pieces will be high fired and therefore freeze thaw proof so you may hang your mandala outside. \n  \n\n\nThis is a two day class and class will be from 10:00 AM -5:00 PM both days.

SUMMARY:Two-Day Textural Clay Embellishments for Mosaics
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will take place on Saturday\, October 22nd and Sunday\, October 23rd from 10am – 4pm. Come discover the joys of working with clay to design and create your own collection of decorative and three dimensional ceramic pieces for embellishing your mosaics. You will love how these pieces give your work a more unique and individual look! We’ll go over design possibilities and you’ll see samples of how to incorporate these pieces into an abstract or representational mosaic. Day one will focus on exploring the endless possibilities of creating textures and imprints in clay as well as how to create sculptural pieces that will add so much dimension to your work. In the afternoon\, I will give a demonstration of how to create molds so that you can duplicate your pieces. Completed tiles will be bisque fired\, and on day two you may choose from a palette of over fifty colors to glaze your pieces.   Glaze application and secrets for layering glazes for special effects will be covered. Upon completion of a second kiln firing\, you will take home an abundant\, generous supply of custom created\, textured clay pieces for use in your mosaics or other artwork. (Out of town students may have your pieces shipped.) \n

Over the course of four sessions you will be well versed and have a broad knowledge of the mosaic tools\, substrates\, adhesives and the techniques you need to make just about anything covered in brightly colored glass and tile. You will learn how to create gorgeous patterns and compositions using fabulous colored opaque glass\, mirror glass\, glass gems\, and ceramic embellishments. You’ll learn about the best products to create long lasting\, beautiful mosaics for both indoor and outdoor settings. \n  \n*Students who have taken several classes may work on individual projects of their choosing. \n  \n\n  \n\n  \n
